The Day Out with the Incoming Swiss Team!

Ah what a day…..I have not blogged for a few months now….. and preferred micro blogging on twitter to this traditional long form of blogging but the day today warrants a blog post….more as a diary entry least I forget the day that was….

We started with a visit to King George Memorial Institute…..somewhere close to Mahalaxmi Station…..huge campus with little buildings…lots of trees and various NGO’s doing some very good work….i reached late as usual ….so I only got to visit The Vatsalya Foundation (www.thevatsalyafoundation.org) and met some street children, spoke to them, the swiss team gave them some autographed postcards and posters of Switzerland, the kids did a little dance on “All izz well’ for us and we moved to our next destination!

100 meters away in the same campus was a little structure where cancer patients and their relatives made beautiful hand made items….books…diya’s candles…..shoe covers..bags etc…..belive you me…the stuff was really beautiful……(people in the group did take some snaps…if and when I get them I shall share!) The stuff they make is sold in major shops like West-Side Tressorie etc. The Taj group of hotel also outsources a lot of things like making shoe covers, lime strainers etc to this group….

I did not know that in the heart of the city…..this place exsisted tucked away amidst the few trees that are still in the city!

Now time to move for lunch at the Yatch Club Colaba……the two Swiss girls…Andrea…and Evelyn decided to get adventurous with us…..and we took a safe calculated gamble and decided to take them by local train from Mahalaxmi Station to Churchgate station…Dhobi Ghat (first time I saw the place) was a stopover near Mahalaxmi Station to take some quick pictures… before we got into a not so crowded train @ 1 in the afternoon….I got to show the girls how we women in Mumbai hold our back-packs in front instead of the back while entering the train…had some interesting conversation on boyfriends and marriages….India and Switerland…the forth seat  concept with place for just half bum…..and we reached churchgate station safely in no time……J

Lunch at Yatch club was good food and very interesting conversation with Christo… his adventures in Mumbai… his escapades in trying to find his way back home alone at 2 in the night after parting in some swanky radio club (incidentally I have never heard of this place)…..his observations and views on how girls look cheap when they show too much both from the top and bottom….apparently the unwritten dress code rule in Switzerland for club wear is that if u are showing skin from the top…..hide skin from the bottom….(wear a low neck ..off shoulder…backless etc dress but it should be long!) and if you want to wear something short….let the neck and the sleeves be long…showing skin from both ends is considered non classy and cheap! Interesting eh….! So all those sexy chicks at the night club showing skin from both ends…sorry to break your heart….but you looked cheap to our tall fair and handsome Christo! Conversations continued over the soup…main course with pictures of his sister and friends on his I-phone ( I am thinking I need to upgrade my phone and keep a lot of pictures on them before my trip to Switzerland….pictures make good conversation points!) The video of the dogs having sex and getting stuck was super duper funny…I should remember to take it from him and uploading it…it is worth a watch!!

And then it was time for Mumbai Darshan…..saw a Jewish Synagogue  which was painted blue and white (apparently because they are the colors of the flag of Isarel)…..seen a synagogue for the first time in my life…I did not know something like this existed in my city….walked into Jahangir Art Gallery….again for the first time…went to Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum…..(was too tired to enjoy it though )…I always though Gandhi museums were only in Gujarat!

Tired…exhausted……thinking…just want this day to get over…..soooo tired……and then we had some good old Chai in our alternate team leaders Shekar’s house ……were rejuvenated to start our journey back again!

Back in the bus….(which btw was a 60 seater AC Volvo bus for 10 of us….) decided to rejuvenate all us tired folks by PLAYING something! The Indians contemplated…what should we play..…Antakshai….nah…20 questions…..nah…First Impressions….nah…Dumb Sharades….ah..ha! So Dumb Sharades it was….apparently…the Swiss had never played Dumb Sharades…..:-) now they will…cultural exchange was successful!!  For the first time to objective of Dum Sharades was…give easy names so we can guess!! Titanic….Pretty Women….Wrestlers….Lord of the Rings… golden eye….:-) some simple English movies took us through the game!

Then time for some snaps and poses at Worli Sea face….:-) I love the water…it is sooo soothing…. and play Rin- Tin- Tin on the promenade…..!

Mumbai Darshan over…..time to leave the bus and go for our dinner party….to a sexy pent house terrace flat behind four seasons hotel…..!What a beautiful place……what a terrace….what view…what breeze…..some singing…some tabla….some German songs…some Hindi songs…some English songs…….some wine…..some food……ah…. Beautiful…..what a day……J!

24 Hours of Dhammal!

Family vacation in Khandala…short.. sweet trip….looking back I realized that it just lasted 24 hours…..reached the Khandala Bunglow at 5 in the evening  Saturday and left at 5 in the evening…but those 24 hours were action packed and a whole lot of fun…..we barely slept 3 hours so it was 21 hours of Dhamal….:-)

And what did this Dhammal include…..! Read on…Don’t have picture to make people jealous ( Yeah…I like to put up snaps to show off on all the fun I have had in various trips!) so you’ll will have to make do with only text on this one!

Gossip!! now this is always the best part of any family trip and we had our share of that….with some non family surprise eye candy material added to our house party list the gossip and the giggles were galore!

Lazy stroll in Khandala gali’s : J A must have ingredient for all ‘hill station trips’…extended gossip session in different venues!

Games Games Games! : We are the GAME family…every time we meet we have to PLAY something…..afterall there is only so much you can gossip and enjoy…playing brings out the child in you and it is a whole lot of fun….if you don’t play when you meet family and friends…..trust me you are loosing out on a lot lot of fun…..(try to bribe me to invite you to one of my extended family outing… and you will see!!

Game 1: Guessing : Two Teams…unlimited  Guessing cards…. limited time…leads to total chaos!! Basically  You have to make your team guess words from cards without  using the ‘Taboo’ words on the card. Words cannot do justice to amount of fun  fighting and involvement this game evoke from people of all ages groups ( our youngest member was 21 an the oldest would be about 65!)

Game 2: DumbSharades: Now I am sure I don’t need to explain what this is ….yeah it was the usual….with acting and guessing and chaos and  cheating and made up movies etc … ‘Shambnam Mausi’…now that cant really be the name of an actual movie can it!??

Game 3: I LOVE YOU : This was my internet discovery some years back ( yeah I do sometimes scout for party  games on the internet! One of my potential career switches is to be a party planner!) and not it has become one of our standard family party games…everybody sits on chairs in a circle with one person standing in the middle of the circle is the denner. The denner walks up to anyone in the circle and asks them  Aunty/Uncle/Do you love me  and they have to answer in a YES or a NO. If the answer is YES the denner asks them why and they have to give a concrete reason like because you are wearing watch ! ;-)….and everyone in the circle wearing the watch has to get up and move places and the denner had to catch a seat! If the person says NO then every body in the circle has to RUN and change places!

This game is super good fun…..people would fight to get a seat…push… fall…..we even ended up breaking a chair while playing ‘I love you’….yeah it can get rough and seem like a war to someone who is sitting down listing to the commotion we were causing….but trust me it make you laugh…makes you happy….and make you love each other even more!!

Terrace party with good food and drink…The normal party stuff…..won’t give u the name of all the dishes but will leave it to your imagination…..all I will say was that it was good stuff and food and drink always add a cheer to the party…it’s a pity some parties have only food and drink to cheer people up!

MIDNIGHT TREK : Yeah Yeah you read it right….MID NIGHT TREK….not stroll….with Family ( just to remind you aged 21 years to 65 years!) We Started out 12 in the night….10 of us squeezed into the Innova… drove 20 kms from  where we stayed..walked/climbed/trekked 2 and a half hours though the rocks, the grass the trees… under the moonlight to reach the top of an old ruined dilapidate fort…

Despite a lot of protests and threats of let us turn back we actually managed to reach the top at 3 in the morning….the breeze was amazing….the view was fantabulous….a birds-eye view of Amby Valley …and the icing in the cake was the our discovery of an abandoned temple perched on a serene lake right there in the middle of nowhere on the top! We sat there in the still of the night at the temple by the lake in the moonlight in had chai…( Yeah we carried chai in the thermos with  little plastic glasses!)

Thank GOD we managed to reach down safely … It was really quite crazy….with a group  of parents/uncles/ aunties/non sporty cousins to attempt trekking in the middle of the night….Indeed an experience of lifetime!

Reached home and crashed out by 6 in the morning!

Game 4: Lagori I am sure everyone has played this as kids…..make two teams…stack up 7 stones….hit the stack and break it with a rubber ball and the team has to rebuilt it while the opposite team trys to hit them below the waist with the ball!

Not one of our usual games…but then our usual parties don’t last 24 hours and are not in intesting places like khandala….:-) this was indeed fun…people were actually playing in their night clothes with rubber chapples….too much trouble to get up and have a bath and get ready in the morning….we are on vacation plz!

Game 5: Spoons : Card game…..whats the fun without some card games….:-) really simple but too much trouble to explain in details….basically when someone screams spoons because their cards are right…everyone has to grab spoons from the middle of the circle…there is one spoon less then person and the person who does not get a spoon is out…..if you ever play this game….be carful that the people around the circle don’t have long nails or you will end up with scratches like the poor boys round the circle had to endure….

Game 6: Name Game: Another all time favorite  family card game..this is about concentration …speed….alertness….tests how loud you can scream and of-course luck!

Bottom Line…What a trip!!…..Yeah believe it or not we did ALL of this and some more stuff….all in jus 24 hours!!

Thank you god for such a wonderful extended family…..Hope we can plan many more such outings!!

The Loong Weekend Trip….

26th January 2009….A Monday….and a Holiday thanks to the Indian Republic Day……so it gave us a Looong weekend…(Ya I am one of the fortunate people who get a Saturday off…!) J Republic Day since is came after a Sat/Sun…it was anything but patriotic….

I had multiple  plans cooking  for the upcoming long weekend….but nothing seemed to be working out…..and most plans were being scrapped for lack of enthu people to join  me in these potential endeavors (it is times like this that I sometimes miss having a boyfriend who I could convince/cajole/threaten and get him to tag along with me….!)

Anyways….So there was 25th Jan Friday night 8.30…..No Loong weekend plan…..:-( (How depressing…!) and I was driving back home….Some friends were going for a trip to Satara…and although I was invited…it did not seem very exciting…. ‘Satara’…for god’s sake who goes to Satara for a holiday!!??! Also more importantly I did not want to be a “Kabab Mein Haddi” and tag along….

But ….WTH…..ultimately I did go along…and I am so glad I did! ( I don’t know if the others are glad….I was maybe way too enthu/hyper for them…! I did try and curb my natural instincts…so I am sure it was not too bad!)

It was a fun trip…..did a lil bit of walking….a lot of talking…..took a whole lot of snaps….

We went to the peaceful Kaas lake….waked though sugarcane…Jowar…Haldi…Tomato fields…plucked fruits directly from the field to eat…..had some super yum strawberry cream with ice cream at Panhcagini…met the farmers made friends with them and discussed life ….eat some wonderful Maharastrain food….( I always though Maharatrain food is only Vada Paw…Missel Paw etc…but no there is lots and it is yummy…the Pittal..The Bajare ka Roti…the Singhdane ki Sabji…mummm!!) …We climbed trees…and ate banana’s sitting up like monkeys….went for a bullock cart ride…..

But the best part were the nights….they were beautiful…the first night we were at Kaas Lake…  which is an unexplored virgin lake far away from civilization on a plateau…surrounded by mountains….….it was wonderful to see the sun setting and the changing colors of the sky…..not a soul around…..and we are  sitting by the lake beneath the  canopy  of stars and seeing their reflection in water.. peaceful… serene….almost heaven…

“ Twinkle Twinkle Little Star….Like a Diamond in the Sky…..”

The second night we were at the Panchgini Table Land…..and believe it or not……we saw three shooting stars…..(or maybe they were satellites orbiting around some far off planet…) but it is soo beautiful to sit out in the open under the night sky with the stars above your head…. ( what I really really want to do next is a night trek and spend the night in a sleeping bag under the sky….)

It was so beautiful……hope to have many more trips like that….till then…you can check out some of the snaps on orkut….

Yeah Dil Mange More!

Just got back from vacation..and boy was it fun or what! I had two sets of vacations….back to back…one with Family and the other with friends…and both were super cool! (‘Super’ cool/sexy/fun/cute etc…seems to be a new superlative word I am using these days….)

So what was more fun….vacation with parents? Or Vacation with friends?

I have had  people who told me oh…you still go on vacations with your parents…and I was like ya its awesome!

They are two very different types of holidays…and only lucky people get to have them both back to back in a span on one week!

The trip with parents was more chilled out and relaxing…..and more luxurious…

The friends trip was hectic….and a lot of fun I almost need a holiday after the holiday to get over the holiday!

I want more of both! Yeah Dil Mange More! (BTW I am already planning the next break for November…J)

But for now more than a vacation I need to get some sleep! Adios for now!
